Schwabinger Tor: an urban quarter grows

Munich, 21 February 2011 – In one of the most exclusive locations in Munich, along  Leopoldstrasse, a new, visionary urban quarter is being created under the direction of the real estate company Jost Hurler Beteiligungs- und Verwaltungsgesellschaft GmbH & Co. KG. New structures will be erected on the building site, positioned in staggered relation to each other, creating open plazas and lanes, in what one could view as a modern reminiscence of the old Schwabing district. Different architects have designed the individual buildings, as a result of which the quarter will have the diversity and variety of a naturally developed district. In addition to the architecture firm 03 Architekten, winner of the 2007 urban architecture competition, other prominent architects are involved in the project, including the Danish firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen, Swiss architect and professor Max Dudler, and the international firm ATP Architekten und Ingenieure. to top
Living centre and oasis of calm
The wide range of use reflects every facet of big city life: luxurious flats, family flats, offices, a hotel and theatre, shops, restaurants, and cafes will make the district at the entrance to the city centre a lively area in its own right and a popular magnet. Schwabinger Tor will unite all the advantages that life in a bustling metropolis has to offer. But–and this is its USP–the entire quarter will be completely traffic-free. This is made possible additionally by the architecturally remarkable, three-level underground structure, conceived and designed by ATP Architekten und Ingenieure. This will extend over the entire site. All of the logistics and traffic involving Schwabinger Tor will be handled here. Moreover, the technology for all buildings as well as for the luxury hotel will be accommodated in this underground area. A passage for pedestrians and short service routes is also planned. ... more
