Laying the Foundations
Jost Hurler began his career in business as a pharmaceutical wholesaler before the outbreak of the Second World War. His conscription in 1939 put a sudden end to his first independent enterprise, but did not tear him away from his line of work entirely because, as a member of the medical corps, his duties included delivering pharmaceutical products to hospitals. This naturally provided him with an opportunity to use and improve his organisational and logistical talents.
In 1945, when Germany's zero hour struck, Jost Hurler was also faced with a new beginning. He invested great energy and ambition in founding a food wholesale business on Lake Tegern, to which he soon added a delivery service. In 1949, he married Josefine, the owner of Zur Überfahrt, an old-established inn on the banks of Lake Tegern. Jost Hurler and his wife turned the inn into a hotel, and their combined efforts over the ensuing years earned it the excellent reputation it still enjoys today. He also continued to expand the food wholesale business and in 1950 (tbc) moved his headquarters to Munich.
