HISTORY

Jost Hurler, a qualified commercial agent, laid the foundations for an entire real estate enterprise when he opened a single estate company's office in 1945. Thanks to his innovative dynamism coupled with a down-to-earth approach and clear customer focus, he made a success of the business. His personality and values continue to inspire our philosophy to this day.

1958 - 1964

Contribution to the Economic Miracle
The German economy made massive strides and Jost Hurler's businesses also flourished. But rather than rest on his laurels, Jost Hurler followed his entrepreneurial instincts and embarked on a totally new venture to become one of the first people in post-war Germany to put the American concept of cash-and-carry markets into practice and offer his customers not only self-service but also a selection of consumer goods in addition to food products. What is accepted as the norm in every supermarket today was a revolution in those days! This totally new departure proved to be a wise move and consolidated the company's success. The self-service principle rapidly became established in the grocery sector and, by 1964, Josef Hurler had opened the first inner-city cash-and-carry market, IKS Großhandelsmarkt Jost Hurler, in Munich's Leopoldstraße. This was also the company's headquarters for many years.
